Welcome to the third of my weekly column’s. Spent the weekend in Torquay where Jack Green hosted his first promotion in conjunction with Goodwin Boxing. Jamie Speight put behind him the disappointment of his opponent pulling out of his Southern Area title with a convincing win for the International Challenge Belt with a convincing win over a tough Georgian. Brad Pauls re-inforced my view that he is one Boxing’s rising stars with a fantastic performance against one of if not the toughest men in boxing, Dan Blackwell. The one damp point was the loss of Darren Tonwley’s unbeaten record. He just did not perform but am sure “The Terminator” will come again.
Tonight I am off to the Hilton Hotel in London where Goodwin Boxing’s Eric Mokonzo takes on Alan Higgins for the Southern Area Super-Middleweight title. Eric is a warrior and is a massive underdog but we are delighted we have secured this opportunity for him. Justin “the Genie” Menzie takes on Mason Cartwright in a 4 round fight on the undercard.
Last week saw the retirement of Tommy Martin. Far far far too early. Tommy was a great talent and we will never every see how good he could have been. Our best wishes go to Tommy in his retirement. Tommy will be our guest for the Goodwin Boxing TV show on Tuesday night at 7pm.
The Eggington v Gavin fight was a classic. I cannot help but wonder what a waste the Gavin career is. He should have been a super-lightweight. Shame!
What happened with Ogogo. It just looks like another situation where being a top class amateur does not make sure a good professional. Not sure he can come again to be honest.
This Saturday at York Hall I am promoting “FRIGHT NITE”. Top of the bill sees Rakeem Noble defend his Southern Area Super-Lightweight title against “Special” Kay Prospere. It’s a great show with the Semi Final of the Fascia and Glazing fight cup – Cruiserweight division taking place between Karl Wheeler and Ossie Jervier plus a great undercard. Doors are at 5.30pm with boxing starting at 6.
Delighted last week to complete the signing of a special talent in Callum Myles. Callum will be trained at the I Box Gym by Alan Smith and Eddie Lam.
Have a great week everyone and hope to see you Saturday!
