InstantBoxing.com’s staff today took a step back to review this weekend’s massive boxing schedule taking place in Las Vegas. The Top Rank card headlined by Timothy Bradley Vs. Diego Chaves was previewed first, check out what our writers had to say.
Timothy Bradley Vs. Diego Chaves
Albert Baker: Tim Bradley UD
Bradley outboxes Chavez in an entertaining fight because Bradley will show the same eagerness to stand and trade with Chavez that he showed against Provodnikov. Chavez tires after the 8th round allowing Bradley to outbox him en route to make a statement about his return to the spotlight.
Joseph McNally: Tim Bradley Unanimous Decision
I see Bradley, who will be looking to rebound from his recent loss to Manny Pacquiao, boxing superbly on the back foot (a la the Marquez fight) to take a comprehensive UD over the game but limited Chaves.
Mark Turley: Tim Bradley Unanimous Decision or Stoppage
Bradley to dominate Chaves, wide UD or late stoppage
Simon Markland: Tim Bradley Unanimous Decision
Tim could have a stoppage if he throws bombs like he did in 2nd Pacquiao fight but if not will box to a wide decision.
Gary Mushrow: Tim Bradley Unanimous Decision
Desert Storm to stay on the move and outbox his aggressive foe. Championship level class will prevail here and Bradley will kick on for a fight with winner of Rios Vs. Alvarado.
Matt Korobov Vs. Andy Lee
Albert Baker: Matt Korobov Split Decision
This is going to be the fight of the week with both fighters bringing solid punching power in a match up of styles that doesn’t miss.
Joseph McNally: Matt Korobov Unanimous Decision
Koborov’s record is a collage of wins over average fighters however, the better the opponent the better he will perform I believe and I expect a comprehensive points win for the Russian this weekend.
Mark Turley: Matt Korobov Points
Lee to lose a tight one to Korobov. Goes out swinging, but gets out-boxed.
Gary Mushrow: Andy Lee KO
Heart over head stuff here maybe, but I just have a feeling Lee will hit that home run and set up a fight with #1 contender Billy Joe Saunders in a massive middleweight fight in the UK.
Mauricio Herrera Vs. Jose Benavidez Jr
Albert Baker: Draw
Herrera is riding his fame for losing a fight that he should have won against champion Danny Garcia. I see this being a tale of two fights with Benavidez using his speed and jab to control the distance and first half of the fight. Herrera will start to figure out the young fighter after eating some power to get inside and make it a brawl during the second half of the fight as he exploits Benavidez’s lack of experience in the championship rounds
Joseph McNally: Jose Benavidez Jr Points
Herrera provides a big step up in class for Benavidaz but one I think he’s ready for. Benavidez to take a close points decision over a competitive Herrara.
Mark Turley: Jose Benavidez Jr Late KO
This will be a close fight. A very high work rate and war of attrition
Gary Mushrow: Jose Benavidez Points
Herrera should be the world champion at 140lbs. Nothing short of a robbery versus Danny Garcia in my opinion but Top Rank have a way of matching their prospects at the right time and with the right opponent, Benavidez has trained hard for this fight and I think he will prevail with his smart boxing.
