Humberto Soto improved his record to seven straight victories with a win over John Molina Jr at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas this evening.

Both fighters beforehand were adamant that this fight would take place in a phone booth with lots of intense inside fighting; however it was Soto who was boxing the slugger and winning the rounds with a large volume of power punches on his younger opponent.

A 17 year veteran of the professional fight game, Soto was utilising every opportunity to unsettle Molina and not allow him to get into any sort of rhythm. Both fighters landed hard shots throughout the bout, but neither seemed to have the power to knock out their dance partner and seemed content to instead trade fatigued shots with decreasing frequency as the bout wore on.

Both fighters had points deducted and both were due to low blows.

In the end, Mexican Soto was way ahead on the judges score cards entering the tenth round and it was clear the California native Molina needed a knock out to seal the fight. Both fighters tried but it just wasn’t to be and the fight ended at the final bell.

34 year old Humberto Soto ran out with a unanimous decision points victory with scores of 96-91 nd 95-92 twice.

Soto improves to (65-8-2, 35KO’s) whilst Molina drops one slipping to (27-5, 22KO’s).
