Harrow super featherweight Mitchell Smith (10-0, 4KO’s) remained undefeated this evening, with a unanimous decision victory over Zoltan Kovacs (11-5, 3KO’s) to capture the WBO super featherweight European title.

Looking to impress in front of a crowd in which he managed to sell 1200 personal tickets, Smith started the early rounds well, scoring a knock down in the second round. That shot resulted in his opponent playing posom to referee Steve Gray, claiming his trip to the canvas was as a result of a push.

Replays displayed a story to the contrary showing a sharp combination ricocheting off the Hungarian’s jaw.

The ten rounds will have done Mitchell Smith no end of good; at times he looked anxious to finish the contest in front of a rapturous home crowd, but Kovacs was a level above anything he had faced before and as such extended his man the distance.

Scores of 97-92 twice and 100 -89 were tabled in favour of Smith, who maybe could consider a move down to featherweight after looking considerably smaller than his opponent come fight night. That being said regardless of size, he got the job done.
