Fresh from the brave and rugged defence of his WBC International flyweight Championship, Filipino fire power Renan Trongco, is looking for new challenges, while sore knuckles heal.
Renan (15-4, 9 KO’s) recently successfully defended his Crown at the Mall of Asia in Manila, with a majority decision over Japan’s Hayato Yamaguchi (12-4-1, 2 KO’s). Renan is a rising star, promoted by Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde.
In June Renan blasted out challenger Jopher Marayan in two of the briefest stanzas, with a mighty TKO. It was different this time around, because he’d hurt the knuckles of his right hand, putting the finishing touches to his training.
Undaunted, and determined to impress, the 25 year old southpaw Champion, gritted his teeth, bit down hard on his mouthguard, and showed his class in an event which was free to the public, and aptly dubbed: Heart of Champions. He cut his Japanese challenger under the left eye in the sixth, and although somewhat hampered, power wise by that sore hand, he finished strongly with a two fisted onslaught.
The scores were: 117-112, 116-112 and a 114-114 draw. So Renan won a deserved and character building majority decison.
