Aguada, P.R. – In another great boxing card held at the Ismael Delgado Coliseum in Aguada, Miguel Cotto’s ‘Boxeo Al Maximo’ series brought a lot of excitement and great fights to the west area of Puerto Rico.
In the main event local fan favorite Josean ‘El Tren’ Figueroa (9-3-2, 7KO’s) won an eight round unanimous decision in a brutal battle with top contender Jonell Nieves.
Figueroa was more active and sharp for the first two rounds, landing great shots and powerful combinations but in the middle of round three an accidental head butt cut Figueroa’s right eyebrow which Nieves took advantage of.
“I was feeling great the first two rounds but I got cut and took my rhythm away for a moment. But I was landing my best shots and putting up the pace. Nieves came here to fight and he showed a lot of heart. It was a great win for me tonight” Figueroa said.
“This was a tremendous fight tonight for the fans all over the west of Puerto Rico, Josean and Jonell made a great battle with a fight that could go either way”, promoter Hector Soto said.
In other results Carlos ‘Kid’ Narvaez outpoint veteran world title contender Omar Soto winning a six round unanimous decision and improving his record to (10-0, 6KO’s).
Roc Nation’s top welterweight prospect Javier ‘Chino’ Flores remained unbeaten and improved his record to (12-0, 11KO’s) after scoring a fourth round KO over Jorge Cordero.
Kevin Nieves (8-1-1, 4KO’s) scored a four round TKO over Javier Garcia and Richy Rodriguez (4-0, 4KO’s), Jeffrey Acevedo (9-1, 8KO’s), Jose Carmona (1-1, 1KO’s) and Alexander Charneco (4-1, 4KO’s) had tremendous victories.
Miguel Cotto Promotions, H2 Entertainment and Roc Nation Sports ‘Boxeo Al Maximo’ series will return to the Roger Mendoza Coliseum on Saturday August 15 with the return of unbeaten WBC’s Latino Super Flyweight Champion Jose ‘Chiquiro’ Martinez.
