CAGUAS, P.R. – Excitement and drama was the main feeling inside the Hector Sola Bezares Coliseum in Caguas when Janiel Rivera outpointed Israel Vazquez to earn a one sided unanimous decision to become the WBC strawweight silver champion.
The highly anticipated minimumweight fight began with a lot of action during the first half of the fight when Janiel was moving side to side with beautiful leg movement and a perfect jab that kept the distance and ruled the fight. Israel tried to land some bombs over Janiel but that wasn’t enough to stop the best Janiel Rivera performance of his career. “I felt great tonight I really did my fight and he couldn’t do anything. I am very proud and happy to be the WBC silver champion, now my goal is to become the world champion”, said a very emotional Janiel Rivera who improved his record to 13-2-2 and 7 Ko’s.
Unbeaten prospect José ‘Chiquiro’ Martinez got the biggest win of his career when he land a brutal left hook that finished Mexican tough veteran Armando ‘Chiquita’ Vazquez in round three. “Was a great hand that landed perfectly, I am very happy of making my first defense of my WBC Latino belt this way”, Chiquiro said.
Top unbeaten and rising star Angel ‘Tito’ Acosta scored his eleventh victory and his eleventh knockout over Mexican Luis Almendarez with a brutal body shot in the very first round. Former 2012 Puerto Rico Olympic member scored his fifth and third knockout over Luis Cosme in round three.
Ricky Rodriguez went the distance with Luis Hernandez and won a four round unanimous decision. Yomar Alamo annihilated Enrique Quiñones with powerful combinations to the body and improved his record to 7-0, with 6 KO’s.
Emanuel Morales scored a brutal first round knockout over Reiarnaldo Rivera, Junny Troche added another knockout to his record when he landed some body combinations that Grays couldn’t take and Eduardo Melendez got a split decision victory over Jayro Santiago.
