Peter Fury is currently diligently working away on the blueprint to beat Wladimir Klitschko on November 28. The British trainer has come to prominence over the years with his straight forward, no nonsense attitude; boasting an impressive stable of undefeated prospects including his two stand out pupils Tyson and Hughie Fury. He recently shared some of his tips on how to get the best out of training a fighter.
Peter highlighted communication being a key driver in co-operating with a boxer. “You have to love your game, simple. Every trainer has different qualities on how they operate. One of the main things you have to do is interconnect very well with your fighter. You have to become as one. That’s how you get the best results.”
He emphasised that upcoming trainers should concentrate not just on physical actions but also focus on greater mental skills. “Action is not always the key to perfection. It’s as much as making the fighter understand what you’re doing and providing them with enhanced thinking skills when in the ring under the bright lights. All these things mentioned and much more are needed to build a world class fighter who can compete on a global stage under pressure.”
