This week’s fight to watch and potentially score some serious points on is Alexander Povetkin v Carlos Takam in Moscow, Russia on Friday night.
It’s all about the heavyweights, this week! We see a tough and hard hitting encounter between two guys with similar records; Povetkin (27-1 19KO’s) takes on Takam (30-1-1 23KO’s).
Povetkin 35, a seasoned and quality operator, has fought the best at the weight in lineal champion Wladimir Klitschko losing to the dominant Ukranian – but don’t they all?
So with that loss in mind and being his only defeat, we look at his victories and his successes up to this point.
His resumé isn’t a bad one; he has wins over fighters such as Manuel Charr, Ruslan Chagaev, Marco Huck and even veterans Chris Byrd and Hasim Rahman, so with that in mind he is pretty much the real deal.
Povetkin is a fighter who likes to fight and goes toe-to-toe quite often, so with a fighter like Carlos Takam we are in store for a real treat.
The adopted Frenchman Takam, isn’t one to shy away from the action either.
With his stock on the rise after wins against former world title challengers Tony Thompson and Michael Grant, as well as a highly disputed draw against Mike Perez, Takam is looking to keep climbing the rankings and hopes Povetkin’s challenge will fall by the way side.
My verdict : Povetkin UD
Yes Povetkin will win but not without having a tough time from Takam.
Povetkin is likely at some point to get in to a war and as a result we may see a few knock downs in this fight because they both can punch and both have good chins.
Experience at the highest level will be key in this fight and I feel with Povetkin he is simply the better fighter with the more know how of the two and will win a good hard fought decision.
