Here we have two fighters who have been around and done so many things in boxing.
Felix Sturm from the days he won the WBO middleweight crown against Hector Javier Velazco, to his big first super bout against the Golden Boy himself Oscar De La Hoya, a bout who some, including myself thought he was robbed of his own title on that night.
His wins against the likes of Zbik, Sylvester, Javier Castillejo and Brits Matthew Macklin and Darren Barker have made him one of the better middleweight boxers over the last 10 years. Now like all boxers, Sturm is on the slide and has been for a couple years. The German is still a dangerous fighter and has good boxing ability and skill with tons of experience at the top table.
His opponent, Robert Stieglitz has also had a standout career, including a great trilogy against Arthur Abraham in which he came up short twice but was relentless in the 2nd fight stopping Abraham in the 4th round. He has good victories over the likes of Eduard Gutknecht, Henry Weber and Issac Ekpo who all were decent tough opponents.
My prediction for this fight is that the Russian born Stieglitz will give Felix Sturm a twelve round war and won’t let up for thirty-six minutes; Sturm has to be on his game here and has to box at his best to stop Stieglitz. The former IBF king will take a tough unanimous decision; I feel Sturm’s ability and experience will see him scrape through and win a close decision.
Expect a great clash with two of Europe’s finest stars.
