30 year old John O’Donnell rolled back the years to capture his first title since 2009 with a Comprehensive victory over game Tommy Tear at York Hall last Friday night.
The former Commonwealth and English Welterweight champion dominated the fight in which Tear was always competitive but outgunned by the classier work of O’Donnell.
O’Donnell took some time out of the ring but late 2015 signed with Steve Goodwin and has returned to the ring as good as ever. O’Donnell is now mandatory for the English title held by Johnny Garton but his eyes are looking at bigger prizes. “It is the British title I am after said O’Donnell. Everyone knows I am avoided but no one can avoid me as long as I keep winning and picking up titles which I will.”.
O’Donnell wants to get back in the ring before the end of 2016 and is aiming for 2017 to be the year he finally cracks his aim of becoming British Champion. “Once I become British Champion who knows how far I can go from there. I will stay in the gm now with Barry O’Connell and my motivation is stronger than ever” concluded O’Donnell
