In a fight that went about as long as this article will read, Olympic Gold medalist Anthony Joshua (10-0, 10KO’s) scored an emphatic technical victory over seasoned veteran Michael Sprott (42-23, 27KO’s) in just the first round.
After a feeling out process and an exchange of jabs which lasted the best part of a minute, Joshua hit Sprott with a hard body shot and then a handful of straight rights to the head which buckled the legs of the 39 year old.
The 25 year old pounced instinctively whilst his elder opponent attempted to catch his breath. A dozen punch combination ensued, leaving a helpless Sprott covering up on the ropes saved only by the mercy of referee Terry O’Connor.
Joshua moves on to fight American Kevin “KingPin” Johnson at the O2 Arena, London in early 2015, an opponent who promoter Eddie Hearn hopes will eventually take his star man some rounds at last.
