CAROLINA, P.R.- In the debut of Miguel Cotto Promotions and H2 Entertainment Boxeo Al Maximo series on Univision Puerto Rico; unbeaten super bantamweight prospect Jose ‘Wonder Boy’ Lopez and Josean Figueroa ended in a 8 round majority draw.
Lopez was cautious and defensive since the very first round. Landing bombs over Figueroa who kept coming and coming Lopez couldn’t find his rhythm to dominate a strong and determinate Figueroa. 2 judges had the fight even with 76-76 and 79-73 for Lopez.
“He came strong I didn’t expect that Figueroa was going to come this way. We made the adjustments of our last fight but this is boxing. I keep learning”, said Jose Lopez who remains unbeaten with 14 wins no losses with a draw and 10 knockouts.
“We came ready for Lopez we knew that he has a powerful left hook and he got me a couple of times but our plan was to break him down we knew that he gets tired. I am happy with today’s performance”, Josean Figueroa said.
In the co-feature was a battle in the mini-flyweight division, Charlie Clemente won a majority decision over Israel ‘Heredero’ Vazquez in a 6 round bout. Clemente establish his style and rhythm all night long meanwhile Vazquez was chasing him throwing bombs the most part of the fight.
“That was the plan move and move, we knew that he has power in both hands but our plan worked perfectly”, Charlie Clemente said. In an exciting TV opener fight; Kevin Nieves (7-1-1, 3KO’s), won a 6 round unanimous decision over Dominican warrior Reynaldo Blanco.
Nieves show sharpness and power knocking down Blanco 3 times in the first round and twice in the second round.
In other results former Olympic boxer Alex ‘El Pollo’ De Jesus made his return after a 5-year layout and winning a unanimous decision over Javier Garcia. Heavyweight Jimmy Suarez upset local favorite knocking out Carlos ‘Chicano’ Cotto in the first round.
Top super bantamweight prospect Freddy Ortiz scored got his 4 win in a row by knockout beating Rafael Padilla with a power left hook to the body on round 2.
Ricardo Rodriguez won his second fight as a pro scoring a first round knockout over Edwin Rosado and Kelvin ‘Tantor’ Nuñez remain unbeaten winning his fifth fight with a KO over Jonathan Gonzalez in round 2.
Miguel Cotto Promotions and H2 Entertainment’s Boxeo Al Maximo series will returns on Saturday March 14 to the Roger Mendoza Coliseum in Caguas with the return of the unbeaten and top prospect Alberto ‘Explosivo’ Machado and the mini flyweight hard puncher and also undefeated Angel ‘Tito’ Acosta.
