Joe Selkirk looks set to return after an eight-month injury layoff before the end of the year.
The former WBO European super welterweight champion, 30, has been out of action since a stoppage victory over Yuri Pompilio in April at Liverpool’s ECHO Arena.
Selkirk, 13-0 (7), suffered a hand injury in that fight and has had surgery on it to repair the long-standing problem, but is now scheduled to return, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky channel 437/HD 490, Virgin channel 546 and TalkTalk channel 415).
He’ll box at the Manchester Arena on December 19, as part of the undercard to Frank Warren’s ‘Xmas Cracker’ card –– which is in association with Adam Booth –– over six or eight rounds as he builds up towards a big 2016.
It is believed that, should the Danny Vaughan-trained Liverpudlian come through his next outing unscathed, a title fight is being lined up for him in February, the finer details of which are to be revealed in due course.
Elsewhere on the card, WBO world champions Liam Smith and Terry Flanagan will make the first and second defences of their super welterweight and lightweight titles respectively.
Meanwhile, former IBF bantamweight champion Paul Butler will return to title action for the first time since his March defeat to [now-former] super flyweight world ruler Zolani Tete.
WBO Inter-Continental and WBO European super lightweight title holder Jack Catterall will return in title action.
The Chorley hotshot, 22, defended his aforementioned Inter-Continental crown at the Manchester Arena last weekend, cruising to a shut-out points decision victory over previously unbeaten Jarkko Putkonen from Finland.
And Commonwealth super middleweight champion Luke Blackledge, who was handed a three-year deal by promoter Frank Warren following his last fight against Lee Markham, is expected to feature on the card.
Tickets, priced at £40, £50, £75, £100, £200 (VIP) and £300 (VIP + food), are available from frankwarren.com or by phone on 01992 505550.
