InstantBoxing.com understands that super middleweight contender James DeGale (19-1, 13KO’s) will fight former world title challenger Marco Antonio Periban (20-2-1, 13KO’s) at the Echo Arena on November 22.
The fight itself will take place on the under card of the highly anticipated rematch between Nathan Cleverly and Tony Bellew, live on Sky Sports Box Office PPV.
DeGale is currently the mandatory challenger to IBF champion Carl Froch, but notice of that mandatory won’t be served to Froch until December 31, with that fight having to take no later than February 28.
This leaves the Harlsden Olympic gold medalist in need of a warm up fight in the interim, with the 29 year old Mexican apparently the front runner to fulfill that slot.
The bout will almost certainly serve DeGale well in preparation for Froch’s come forward powerful style as Periban exhibits many of the same traits as the Nottingham puncher.
DeGale is coming off the back of an impressive victory in an IBF eliminator battle against American Brandon Gonzalez at Wembley Stadium last May, on the under card of the infamous Froch versus Groves rematch.
Periban, on the contrary is looking to battle back from three disappointing fights in the last eighteen months; a defeat to Sakio Bika for the vacant WBC super middleweight title has seen a subsequent dip in form resulting in a draw and recent loss to Mayweather Promotions protégés Badou Jack and J’Leon Love respectively.
