Conlan to do eight rounds in Dublin after title defence opponent withdraws‏

Jamie Conlan is set for an eight-round contest this weekend, despite being advertised as a headline act.

The Belfast super flyweight had been set to defend his WBO Inter-Continental title against Gagi Edisherashvili on Saturday at the National Stadium in Dublin, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky channel 437/HD 490, Virgin channel 546 and TalkTalk channel 415).

But Conlan has been replaced as top-of-the-bill after Edisherashvili, of Georgia, pulled out of the fight.

While Jamie Cox will now head MGM Marbella’s ‘Second Coming’ card in a defence of his WBO European super middleweight crown, Conlan will face Argentina’s Adrian Dimas Garzon (10-18, 1KO) on a bill that also features Indian sensation Vijender Singh, who faces undefeated firefighter Dean Gillen.

Elsewhere on the card, which is in association with Frank Warren and Queensberry Promotions, there is an Irish title battle between friends Peter McDonagh and Dean Byrne, while Michael Sweeney and Ian Tims are set to go head-to-head for a second time with the vacant Celtic cruiserweight strap at stake and Jamie Kavanagh fights for the second time in three months.

And a star-studded undercard, filled with prospects including lightweight talent Declan Geraghty and Belfast super featherweight Ciaran McVarnock, completes the show.
