Dave Coldwell’s Rotherham gym is thriving. Tony Bellew and Jamie McDonnell are riding high in their respective leagues, Jamie’s twin brother, Gavin is closing in on a lucrative world title shot and Liverpiol heavyweight, David Price, is aiming to replicate the form that once had industry experts tipping him for stardom. Coldwell’s return to the corner, following a lengthy stint promoting, was not intended to be a full time routine but those original plans have been drastically altered and now Camp Coldwell is one of the leading stables in British boxing.
“I’m loving life at the moment,” buzzed Coldwell. “I’ve had nothing but pressure in this sport but I thrive on it and the feeling I get from my current group of fighters doing well just can’t be described. The training was something that took a back seat because the time and effort putting shows on was something else and it was hard to turn some fighters away. Bellew is one of my good mates and I couldn’t turn him down and it’s just grown and grown since then. The results have been brilliant since and the momentum the gym has now is something special. We’re nowhere near finished either.”
Coldwell added on his current fighters situations, “We’re just looking at a few things but hopefully the landscape will be clearer in a couple of weeks and we can all knuckle down with our targets in sight. Bellew and Jamie Mc will be targets for a few fighters out there and we need to make sure that we close in on a world title shot for Gavin. Pricey is making improvements every single day in the gym and he’s desperate to get back amongst the mix and I’m confident he can get there with a couple of good wins. All four of them want to be the very best and it’s so good to see them all pushing that little bit more out of each other. The atmosphere is great at the moment and we’ve got to stick on and keep getting big results.”
