Coldwell Delighted with Appleyard’s Progress

Dave Coldwell

Dave Coldwell is littered in admiration for his lightweight prospect, Lee Appleyard. A recent victory over previous nemesis, Adam Hague, was a success that made those within boxing’s thriving small hall community take notice but both Coldwell and Appleyard have ambitions far beyond the non-television landscape and are hoping for further opportunities following the Rotherham man’s latest win that sent him flying up the domestic rankings and within view of a title chance.

Appleyard knows his craft well both inside and out the ring and his fight education accrued across a wide variety of Yorkshire venues has seen him rack up a respectable record of 10-2. With a daring reputation well known to those in his close circle and a profile of being an exciting fighter, Appleyard has has overly satisfied his public and although he revels in the role he’s somewhat become accustomed too, his ceiling goes far beyond being a fan-friendly entertainer with honours outlined as his ultimate target.

“Being with Dave and having him help with decisions gives me hope,” Revealed Appleyard. “He’s provided me with the right fights and got me great opportunities but i think I’m at that stage now where i want to step up and find out if I’m really good enough to win titles and test myself against better names. Dave has some brilliant relationships with other promoters and i know he’s capable of opening a lot of doors for me so the plan now is to just keep winning and if i do that then maybe an English or Commonwealth title shot can be arranged and that’s when i know that I’ll find out how good I am or how good I can be.”

Coldwell shares a similar enthusiasm when discussing Appleyard’s potential. “He’s done everything asked of him and his latest victory is a huge indicator that he’s taking things on board and that he’s ready for a step up. He’s the type of fighter promoters want on their show as he leaves it all in the ring but he’s getting smart with it now and you can see the improvements he’s making every single fight. Im really hoping i can sit down with a few people and get something a little bigger lined up for him as his attitude and desire have been first class and the way he’s been learning under Stefy Bull and Ray Doyle has been superb. They also deserve a lot of praise for their hard work. He’s a joy to manage so hopefully i can deliver what he wants.”
