Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez (12-0, 11KO’s) of Buena Park, California returns to the ring this Friday on the anniversary card of Golden Boy Promotions LA Fight Club held at the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles, to face veteran gatekeeper David Rodela (17-12, 7KO’s).

Gonzalez is becoming a televised staple of the fight series designed to build budding fighters into top prospects; having dispatched eleven of his twelve opponents inside the distance to frenzied home crowds. David Rodela serves to be his most experienced opponent and will be a measuring stick for Golden Boy to assess Gonzalez’s development, with Rodela having been in the ring with the likes of Terrance Crawford, Jorge Linares, and Ronny Rios to name a few.

“Training camp is going good, I got in those last good rounds of sparring and I’m ready to go in there and put on a show” said Gonzalez over the phone. “He’s been in with some of the best like Crawford, Rios and Linares, he was also a sparring partner for Manny Pacquiao so I know this guy can be real crafty in the ring.”

Developing into a prospect is a maturation process that doesn’t happen overnight and Gonzalez is understanding of his status but, is hopeful for the future. “I’m still proving myself as a prospect, I’m still learning and I have to mature in the ring some more, but If I keep winning they’ll keep watching and I’ll move forward when the time is right.”

“David Rodela will bring out the best in me so far, he’s seen a lot and will adjust but, I’m a young hungry prospect and I want to show what I can do.”

LA FightClub can be seen Friday at 7PM PST or Saturday morning at 3AM GMT on Estrella TV or streamed on or on YouTube via Fenomeno Studios at The untelevised portion of the fight card will once again be streamed on beginning at 5:30PM PST or 1:30AM GMT.
