Chris Eubank Jr put on an emphatic display to take the British Middleweight title away from Nick Blackwell.
Over the years Eubank has been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism ranging from pre fight antics to his father Chris Eubank Sr, also known as ‘English’, being present in his corner.
The young middleweight contender has shown great resilience and superb focus on the task at hand. Rarely engaging with his haters whilst continuing his climb to the top.
The presence of his father in the corner is a welcome one in my opinion, a former world champion who has witnessed the intracacies of the sport. English is well placed to guide his son’s career inside and outside of the ring.
Chris Jr has become a solid TV friendly and fan friendly fighter making him one of the hottest properties in UK Boxing in terms of viewing figures and return on investment; as Matchroom supremo Eddie Hearn said, “boxing is a numbers game.”
He put on a scintillating performance for the fans when he broke down Spike O Sullivan on Sky Sports Box Office. Now he has performed once again vs Blackwell on another large platform, Channel 5. His gunslinger style and granite chin is allowing many viewers to tune in with excitement. Sponsors, promoters and TV stations will definitely be lining up to get a chunk of Chris Eubank Jr as the financial rewards are getting bigger and bigger.
The young lion is gearing up for a big 2016 and it will be interesting to see where The Next Gen team go from here.
