Scotty Cardle (16-0, 4KO’s) made a massive statement in the 135lb British division this evening, winning the English lightweight title and British title eliminator with a destructive victory over champion Kirk Goodings (11-2, 3KO’s).
Both fighters came out swinging for the lights in the opening seconds of the first round and it was the Lytham St Anne’s fighter which came out on top. A screwing right uppercut caught Goodings cold and dropped the Sunderland native to the canvas; he managed to gain his feet by the count of eight but the damage was already done.
As soon as Steve Gray waved on the action, Cardle jumped all over Goodings with heavy left and right hooks upstairs prompting the referee to intervene after just 46 seconds of the first round to the shock of the onlooking crowd.
With only six stoppage wins between both fighters, many predicted this fight to go the full ten rounds, how wrong they all were.
