Callum Smith (14-0, 11KO’s) reaffirmed his status as the future of the super middleweight division with a punishing third round technical knockout of Rafael Sosa Pintos (48-11, 19KO’s).
As normal with the youngest of the Smith brothers, it was a vicious body attack which put paid to his Uruguayan counterpart and ultimately end the contest.
Three knockdowns in the third from sickening left and right hooks to the body left the 34 year old Pintos gasping for air. The brave ex Matthew Macklin foe made it to his feet in time for the count but referee Howard Foster had seen enough.
Smith now moves on to a November fight in Liverpool against Nikola Sjekloca which serves as a WBC elimination contest. In what is a massive step up for Smith in such an early part of his career, Sjekloca has only been beaten on two occasions throughout his career against WBO world champion Arthur Abraham and former WBC champion Sakio Bika.
