BURKINSHAW IN WORLD TITLE SHOT?

Dennis Hobson has revealed he has world title ambitions for Sheffield’s Ross Burkinshaw.

At just a few days’ notice and in a gutsy performance, Burkinshaw claimed the Commonwealth bantamweight title last month when he outpointed Jason Cunningham in a fight of the year contender.

With Burkinshaw currently slated to meet former champ Martin Ward in a first defence, Hobson isn’t ruling out a shot at world honours for Ross in 2015.

“Don’t be surprised by what Ross can achieve,” said Hobson in his regular Sheffield Star column.  “Look at Martin Ward, he won the Commonwealth and I managed to get him a world title shot.

“If Stuart Hall comes through [against Randy Caballero] and if Ross comes through [against Ward], it would fill out a venue in Sheffield, wouldn’t it?”

Also in his column, Dennis discusses Johnny Nelson’s return to the ring, and the current British heavyweight scene – read it here.
