Enfield’s Frank Buglioni (15-1, 11KO’s) recaptured his WBO european super middleweight title with a hard fought victory over previously undefeated Andrew Robinson (13-1, 4KO’s) in London this evening.
Buglioni, lost his title in April this year in a bruising defeat when knocked out whilst taking a step up in class against fringe contender Sergey Khomitsky. The 25 year old looked to have improved in certain aspects of his game in the early stages of this fight slipping punches and catching shots on his gloves.
“Wise Guy” looked to have his opponent hurt on a few occasions during the fight, particularly when a concussive left hook knocked Robinson down at a point in which the Redditch native was coming on strong.
Buglioni looked for the finish in the round which followed, but seemed to quickly punch himself out after a flurry of shots were slipped by his opponent.
As the fight wore on, Robinson looked to be getting more into the contest with major success on the inside against his tall super middleweight foe and subsequently was giving Buglioni the biggest test of his career bar the Khomitsky loss.
The last two rounds saw both fighters man it out center ring and both looked to be slightly hurt at different stages of the two sessions, with wild winging hooks and upper cuts connecting frequently from both fighters.
Scores read 97-92 97-93 97-92, all in favour of Frank Buglioni, who now moves on to try and climb the British rankings at 168lbs. As for Andrew Robinson, a suggested move back down to middleweight would maybe fare him better in future contests.
