Lineal super middleweight world champion Andre “SOG” Ward (27-0, 14KO’s) today announced that he has signed a promotional agreement with new boxing venture Rocnation Sports fronted by rapper Jay-Z.
The news came amidst speculation that the former Olympic Gold medalist could potentially be out of the ring for a further lengthy period of time, whilst his promotional contract disagreement with now former promoter Goossen Boxing was being resolved.
Ward 30, hasn’t been in the ring since November 13 and many boxing sites and purists alike had become resigned to remove him from their pound-for-pound rankings as a result of the fighter’s inactivity.
Today’s news is a massive shot in the arm for the sport; whilst announcing one of boxing’s major names is to return to the ring, it also announced Rocnation Sports onto the scene in a massive way.
Ward released the news of the newly formed promotional agreement today via his Twitter and Instagam feeds.
Hopefully now in a stable promotional agreement, Ward can pick up from his 2009-12 form which saw him rise near the top of the pound-for-pound rankings.
Huge prospective fights could now be on the horizon for the Oakland native, with mega bouts with “GGG” Gennady Golovkin, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr or even a rematch with current division number two Carl Froch now a possibility.
